Being such a colorful language there are expressions in Yiddish that are perfect and do not exist in any other language. Gusoff has gathered many of those together for book and as I read, I took a trip down memory lane. I must tell you that I laughed all the way through this book and I thought of the new Yiddish curses I can put on my facebook page. A Facebook tradition of mine until about six months ago when I ran out of them was to put a different Yiddish curse on my timeline every day.

There are the casual expressions that have almost become part of English—this is a must have if you live in New York City or New England where we speak Yiddish or Engyidish. I feel like I have a new vocabulary with delightful phrases that if I drop them at, say, a cocktail party or a lecture hall, half of the room will start laughing. You won't get verb conjugations, and it's hard to draw the line between slang and non-slang, because there is no real standardization of the language, for one, and for another, Yiddish is so gosh-durned earthy.

But the treatment of the language is great. This is a good source for anyone looking to Yiddishize their English, but not really learn grammatically cor Thicker than some of the other books in this series, Dirty Yiddish goes out of its way to teach what might be considered polite Yiddish. This is a good source for anyone looking to Yiddishize their English, but not really learn grammatically correct, conversational Yiddish much like the other books in this series.

Make sure you aren't drinking anything whilst reading the hilarious chapter on curses, because you're sure to get it up your nose! You have to delve deep into the book to find anything dirty.
